Beyond the basics for optimal client care

Lesson 1 100%

Beyond the basics for optimal client care

Our final month within our Neuro Essentials Master Class introduces working within the NDIS framework, what you need to know to understand the role of allied health in supporting NDIS participants and considerations in effective report writing within the NDIS system. These NDIS presentations are then followed by 2 modules helping therapists to look beyond the basics in patient care for a wholistic approach to their management; exploring the impact of vestibular system dysfunction in our patients and using cardiovascular fitness training to improve outcomes through enhanced learning and performance.

Masterclass

Working with NDIS clients – an introduction to the NDIS

Presenter: Cindy Lawlor (Senior Neurological Physiotherapist)
Description: Navigating the NDIS can be challenging for new clinicians and clients. This module aims to help you better understand the NDIS system by detailing the background, structure and processes of the NDIS, and how to implement NDIS with your clients.

NDIS Report Writing

Presenter: Sarah Sargeant
Description: This presentation aims to explore the key considerations when writing an NDIS report for your client. We will cover: relevant information to share when discussing your current therapy intervention, the use of outcome measures to give evidence to the effectiveness of those interventions and how they relate to your client’s function, and the importance of focusing on activity limitations and participation, rather than impairments.

The Vestibular System: An Introduction

Presenter: Kumbelin Levin
Description: With a lifetime prevalence between 20 and 30%, vestibular dysfunction is a common and at times debilitating problem faced by many people. Understanding the broad role of the vestibular system and being able to appropriately screen and assess for vestibular dysfunction are essential skills for any physiotherapist to have when managing clients, particularly those with a neurological condition. In this in-service, we provide you with the foundational knowledge needed to complete a thorough subjective assessment, an overview of common vestibular conditions, the basic tools you need to differentiate between a central and peripheral vestibular problem, and some key tips for exercise prescription in vestibular rehabilitation.

The Role of EP and Cardiorespiratory Fitness training in neurological population

Presenter: Marlou Tacugue
Description: Understanding the concept and role of cardio-respiratory fitness training and the importance of addressing this sooner rather than later is essential for maximising functional performance and outcomes. Aerobic exercise in neurological populations has been shown to prime and help facilitate improvements in motor re-learning and gait re-training activities. Here we will teach you how to prescribe aerobic exercise correctly at the right intensity and dosage to maximise the effects of neuroplasticity.

Join us for the next group coaching session. This is your chance to ask questions and get feedback from our senior clinicians based on this months topic.
